Medicare Part D
Medicare Part D
What is Medicare Part D? Part D of Medicare provides the prescription coverage. It is important to sign up for Medicare Part D during the Initial Open Enrollment in order to avoid possible penalty charges. There are to 2 options to sign up for Medicare Part D. First option is to purchase a stand alone Part D plan and the second option is to purchase a Part C or Medicare Advantage Plan that includes the Part D. Most Medicare Advantage Plans pick up the Part D coverage. If you purchase a Medigap plan, you will then have to purchase a stand alone Part D plan because Medigap plans do not include the prescription coverage.
Medicare Part D may charge a monthly premium or may not, depending on what plans are available in your area. A careful review is needed before purchasing a Part D plan in order make sure that all your prescriptions are covered under the plan. Once you sign up for s Medicare Plan D, you have the option to change plans once a year during Open Enrollment between October 15th – December 7th.
